This is my theory on why rondo is such an important exercise for player development. The United States Soccer Federation came out about a year ago, saying rondo lacks a direction, doesn’t involve scoring goals, has no shooting and therefore is not recommend to their coaches. I completely disagree with that viewpoint, and have put together my own reasons why rondo is so beneficial, complete with scientific data. However, in an effort to keep the content focused and simple, I did not go into as much detail, I will be writing a more extensive article in the future on the neuroscience of rondo training, including grid cells, direction cells, spatial awareness and much more.
