Soccer Passing Exercises Using External Cueing

This video demonstrates the coaching technique referred to as “external cueing” using passing exercises. External cueing takes the focus off the mechanics of the technique and puts the focus on the success of the action. The cones in this video are used as targets, if the pass goes through the target cones, the pass is deemed a success. What happens is the brain starts to focus on the outcome and not the technique itself, allowing the body to carry out the technique on automatic pilot. External cueing increases successful repetitions. Internal cueing is when a technique is broken down and the focus goes internal, thinking about all the important components involved in executing the technique. Internal cueing tends to take away from the natural rhythm and flow of a technique, External cueing increases performance levels. I am sure you can convert many of your trainings to include external cueing. Enjoy the video.
